His Excellency Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam said that within a few years, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage has been able to achieve many important goals in the field of cultural heritage, whether at the academic, studies, publication, programmes, events or activities level organised throughout the year. His Excellency added that SIH contributed to enhancing cultural awareness on heritage, and was open to various pioneering and distinguished cultural and scientific experiences, which resulted in many results.
Al Musallam pointed that the efforts exerted by the SIH, in the field of publishing, contributed to sponsoring, supporting and disseminating many cultural and heritage projects, including the thesaurus of Intangible cultural heritage in the Arab world, the Emirati Encyclopedia of Handicrafts, Professions and Industries, glossary of Emirati heritage tools, glossary of terms in architecture heritage, the Encyclopedia of Popular Proverbs in the Arabian Gulf, and other works that contributed to documenting the Emirati and Arab heritage, pointing out that the SIH looks forward to opening up to more fields, in cooperation and partnership with cultural and scientific institutions, in order to avail SIH publications.
Al Musallam stressed that the efforts made contributed to the publication of more than 300 publications in various fields of cultural heritage, history, literature, anthropology, and other topics, including books, series, magazines and publications.
Al Musallam, and SIH delegation accompanying were briefed on the efforts of GEBO in publishing and distribution, and GEBO achievements to avail books to readers, especially through popular editions at low prices, available in the various distribution outlets of GEBO. The organization also organises book fairs throughout the year within Egypt, and participate in exhibitions outside Egypt.
Al Musallam discussed, with the head of GEBO, ways of joint cooperation in the field of publishing, translation and distribution, to be formulated in the Memorandum of Understanding, including cooperation in publishing and distributing popular editions of the SIH publications, selecting topics from cultural heritage by agreement between both sides, publication of anthologies, in addition to the translation of some important heritage books.
Dr. Haitham Al-Hajj praised the efforts of SIH in the field of publishing, stressing that this cooperation and partnership will contribute to strengthening cooperation between both sides, advancing publishing, and availing books to readers in the United Arab Emirates, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and abroad, through GEBO approved outlets.
