During the Breastfeeding Week, we witnessed the participation of Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Honorary President, and a motivational speech was presented through a video in support of breastfeeding on social media. 4 workshops were organized in both Arabic and English, on the benefits of breastfeeding for the health of mother and child, presented by a group of specialists and consultants caring for children at Jumana Nursery, fun activities were held for children in the nursery, in addition to organizing competitions and prizes. The association also offered discounts on the sale and rental of lactation devices.
Engineer Khawla Abdul Aziz Al Noman, President of the Friends of Breastfeeding Association, indicated that the National Breastfeeding Week is one of the most prominent annual events that the Association is keen to celebrate and invest as an awareness platform by organizing campaigns and educational programs that aim to raise the level of health awareness of mothers about the benefits of breastfeeding. She pointed out that the association’s participation in the National Breastfeeding Week is an embodiment of the visions and directives of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA), on the necessity of work To organize awareness and educational events and campaigns to improve the physical and psychological health of children and mothers, and encouraging breastfeeding as the best way to form a healthy and happy family relationship, and consequently a society that enjoys the elements of mental and physical health.
Engineer Khawla Abdulaziz Al-Noman said that the slogan of the National Breastfeeding Week, which came under the slogan “Protecting breastfeeding is a shared responsibility, confirms our endeavor to unify all efforts of health institutions to consolidate the culture of breastfeeding and encourage and educate mothers about the importance of breastfeeding and increase its rates, given the great benefits that are reflected on the child, especially in the first six months of his life, protects and reduces the incidence of many diseases, as breast milk contains natural antibiotics, and breastfeeding helps and reduces infectious diseases such as gastritis, diarrhea, and pneumonia, as well as protecting it in the long run. Among the diseases associated with obesity and diabetes, breastfeeding also helps protect the mother and reduce the incidence of breast and uterine cancer, diabetes, and postpartum depression.
