Authorities reported that rescue services were swiftly dispatched to the accident site and are currently engaged in the process of evacuating passengers.
The incident occurred in Pardubice, which forms part of the country's primary railway route from Prague to the eastern region.
Martin Netolický, the governor of the Pardubice region, revealed on Facebook that the passenger train involved was operated by the RegioJet train company. He further stated that the collision between the RegioJet train and the freight train resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.
Post-accident footage depicted at least one carriage derailed, with police sharing images on their X account showcasing emergency service vehicles and a helicopter at the scene.
