SCHESR launches the “COMPASS Leadership Programme”

Sharjah 24: In implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research (SCHESR) has launched the first cohort of the “COMPASS Leadership Programme” in collaboration with the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom. The programme is the first of its kind in the country and aims to develop senior academic leaders in higher education institutions.

The programme was launched in the presence of Her Excellency Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Executive Committee Member of the Council, along with Council members including university and educational institution leaders in Sharjah. Among them were His Excellency Dr Ali Hilal Alnaqbi, Chancellor of the University of Khorfakkan; His Excellency Dr Hashim AlZaabi, Chancellor of the Sharjah Maritime Academy; Her Excellency Dr Aisha Abu Shalabi, Chancellor of the University of Al Dhaid; Her Excellency Dr Najwa Al Hosani, Chancellor of the University of Kalba; and Her Excellency Dr Aisha Bukhatir Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Council, in addition to Ms Khawla Al Hosani, Vice Chancellor of the Sharjah Education Academy.

 

Sharjah, leading hub for academic and research excellence

 

The two-week programme, held on the University of Exeter campus, provides participants with the opportunity for direct engagement with experts in leadership, governance, and institutional development in higher education. The programme aims to strengthen strategic leadership capabilities, enable participants to make knowledge- and data-driven decisions, and support the creation of university environments that foster innovation and student well-being.

The collaboration with the University of Exeter reflects the partners’ commitment to enhancing institutional governance, transparency, and efficiency within universities, contributing to the advancement of academic programme quality, improved institutional performance, and the support of research excellence. The programme also focuses on reinforcing a culture of excellence and inclusivity, and promoting values of diversity, innovation, and continuous development, in alignment with SCHESR vision to strengthen Sharjah position as a leading hub for academic and research excellence.

 

Global centre for education and scientific research

 

The “COMPASS Leadership Programme” represents a strategic step toward preparing university leaders capable of driving transformation within higher education institutions and reflects the Council’s dedication to supporting Sharjah’s ambition to become a global centre for education and scientific research.
