Sharjah24-AFP: Eleven railway workers were killed, and two were injured on Thursday after a train conducting seismic equipment testing collided with a construction team at Luoyang Town station in Kunming, located in south-west China’s Yunnan province.

According to a statement from the Kunming Railway Bureau, the incident occurred early in the morning when the train was “passing normally through a curve inside Kunming Luoyang Town Station” and struck workers who had entered the track area. The bureau confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the collision.

Transport operations restored

Authorities reported that transportation services at the station had resumed to normal by midday Thursday, while the injured workers received medical treatment.

Industrial accidents remain quite common in China due to lax safety measures and vague regulatory standards, which continue to raise concerns about worker safety and oversight.
