The reception was held in the presence of Sheikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the Supervision and Follow-up Committee of the Arab Women Sports Tournament.
The visit followed the team’s victory in the first edition of the West Asia Women’s Clubs Volleyball Championship, which was held in the State of Kuwait. The Sharjah team claimed the gold medal after defeating Kuwait’s Al Fatah Club in straight sets in the final, winning three sets to none. A large official and public audience attended the decisive match last Saturday at the Salwa Al Sabah Sports Club in Kuwait.
The reception marked the culmination of an outstanding campaign by the Sharjah side, which added a landmark achievement to the history of women’s sport in the Emirate of Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates.
During the meeting, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi expressed her pride in the players’ achievements, congratulating them on their performances and stressing that their success reflects the values of commitment, perseverance, and collective effort. She noted that these principles form the foundation of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, which has, since its inception, placed strong belief in investing in people as the most authentic way to build champions.
Her Highness said, “Today, we stand proudly before the result of years of belief, work and patience. Our daughters, with whom this dream began at an early age, have raised the name of Sharjah high by winning the cup and gold medals at the West Asia Women’s Clubs Volleyball Championship in Kuwait. This achievement is not the end of the journey but the beginning of a broader and more ambitious path towards regional and international podiums, grounded in firm values and sporting ethics that reflect the spirit and honourable identity of Sharjah.”
She added that sport is not defined solely by results and trophies but by a journey shaped by patience, discipline and values. She explained that the focus of women’s sports in Sharjah is on building accomplished individuals with lasting achievements, rather than producing competitors alone, while instilling teamwork, respect and discipline in every athlete.
Her Highness further noted that regional and Arab competition is strong and that some countries have longer experience in training and development. However, she affirmed that Sharjah has chosen a steady and sustainable path of progress, learning from every experience without compromising its identity or ambitions. She stressed that Sharjah’s teams are expected to represent the Emirate through their ethics prior to their achievements, entering every competition with unity, responsibility, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Sheikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa also congratulated the players, describing the title as a pivotal milestone in the journey of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club. She said the achievement carries significance beyond being the club’s first title of its kind, as it reflects the advanced position women’s sport has reached in the UAE and the Gulf region and reaffirms the ability of Emirati women to compete and excel at the highest levels.
She explained that the championship title was the result of a flawless campaign, with the team remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. The Sharjah side opened its campaign with a victory over Al Arabi Club of Qatar, followed by a win against Al Nasr Club of Yemen, before defeating Kuwait’s Salwa Al Sabah Club in the group stage.
In the knockout rounds, the team continued its strong performance, overcoming Al Fayha Club of Saudi Arabia in the quarterfinals and then defeating Al Ula Club of Saudi Arabia in the semi-finals in what was described as one of the tournament’s most competitive matches. Despite the physical and mental demands, the players maintained their focus and determination to secure a place in the final.
