Sharjah24: Al Wahda suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Qatar’s Al Gharafa in the sixth round of the AFC Champions League, after conceding a decisive late goal that boosted the hosts’ chances of reaching the knockout stage.

The match, played at Thani bin Jassim Stadium in Doha, remained evenly contested for long periods, with both sides struggling to break the deadlock. Al Wahda created several opportunities but failed to capitalise, allowing Al Gharafa to stay in the contest until the closing stages.

Late drama decides the match

Al Gharafa finally broke the deadlock in the 87th minute when Sidou Sané scored the only goal of the match, sparking celebrations among the home fans and securing vital three points for the Qatari side.

Standings implications

With the victory, Al Gharafa increased their points tally to six, moving into ninth place and keeping their hopes of qualification alive. Despite the loss, Al Wahda remained fourth in the standings with 13 points, having already secured a place in the next round of the competition.
