Sharjah 24 – AFP: “Avatar: Fire and Ash” has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, retaining the top spot in North American cinemas with an additional $40 million in ticket sales, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

Strong domestic and international earnings

The third installment in James Cameron’s blockbuster franchise has earned $306 million in the United States and Canada, alongside $777 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to about $1.08 billion, Exhibitor Relations reported.

Cast and storyline

The film stars Zoe Saldana as Na’vi warrior Neytiri and Sam Worthington as former Marine Jake Sully, who face a new threat endangering their family on the planet Pandora.

Another billion-dollar success for Cameron

“Fire and Ash” marks the fourth James Cameron film to surpass $1 billion globally, joining the first two “Avatar” films and “Titanic.”

North American Box Office runners-up

Disney’s animated sequel “Zootopia 2” placed second with $19 million, pushing its global total close to $1.6 billion. Lionsgate’s “The Housemaid” followed in third with $14.9 million, while A24’s sports drama “Marty Supreme” took fourth with $12.6 million.

Top five rounded out

Fifth place went to the meta action-comedy “Anaconda,” starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black, which earned $10 million.

Other films in the top 10

Also featuring in the top 10 were “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants,” “David,” “Song Sung Blue,” “Wicked: For Good,” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.”
