UAE and Azerbaijan deepen strategic partnership

Sharjah 24 – WAM: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi to review bilateral relations and discuss ways to expand cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Focus on economic, investment and renewable energy cooperation

The two leaders explored collaboration opportunities in areas supporting the development goals of both countries, particularly in economic, investment, development, and renewable energy sectors.

Recognition of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity

The meeting also addressed the 2026 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, which honoured the historic peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed praised the agreement as a global model for reconciliation and a key step toward peace and stability in the Caucasus region.

New agreements announced

A Letter of Intent on defence cooperation between the UAE and Azerbaijan was announced, along with a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a twinning partnership between the Department of Municipalities and Transport – Abu Dhabi and the city of Baku.

High-level delegation and official reception

The meeting was attended by senior UAE leaders, including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ministers, and senior officials, alongside the Azerbaijani delegation. President Aliyev was received earlier in the day by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and other senior officials upon his arrival in the UAE.
