Stefan Kranen, Mayor of Hürtgenwald in North Rhine-Westphalia, said the aircraft went down near the town shortly after taking off from an airport near Aachen. The wreckage was later discovered by hikers inside a forested areas.
Police confirmed that the cause of the crash is still unknown, noting that investigations are ongoing.
