Sharjah 24 – WAM: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, attended an insightful session titled "Cybersecurity: How Does Awareness Form the First Line of Defence?" presented by His Excellency Dr Mohammed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government. The event took place at the Fujairah Creative Centre as part of the Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi Majlis sessions, reflecting the leadership's commitment to fostering a digitally literate and secure society.

Promoting a culture of digital safety

During the session, His Highness emphasised the vital importance of establishing a robust community awareness system for cybersecurity. He noted that promoting a culture of safe digital technology use is a fundamental requirement for protecting individuals and institutions alike. This approach supports the UAE's broader efforts in constructing a secure and sustainable digital ecosystem that can withstand the challenges of a hyper-connected world.

His Highness further highlighted that the Fujairah government, under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, places a high priority on knowledge-based initiatives. These programmes are designed to enhance awareness across various vital sectors, ensuring that all members of society are better prepared to keep pace with the rapid digital transformations occurring globally.

National efforts and defensive mechanisms

The session addressed several critical themes, most notably the national efforts currently being deployed to confront digital threats and attacks targeting the nation's infrastructure. Dr Al Kuwaiti reviewed the most prominent cyber risks and the sophisticated protection mechanisms adopted at the national level to safeguard data and privacy. The discussion underscored that while technical tools are essential, the human element remains the most critical factor in maintaining national security.

Dr Al Kuwaiti also stressed that individual awareness constitutes the actual first line of defense against cyber threats. He explained that protecting personal data is no longer just a technical task but a shared responsibility requiring a comprehensive societal commitment. By adopting safe digital practices, every citizen and resident contributes to the collective resilience of the nation, ensuring that the UAE remains a leader in digital innovation and security.
