Sharjah 24 – WAM: Recent climate data shows average rainfall across Austria has dropped by 30% to about 164 litres per square metre, a deficit of roughly 70 litres compared with normal levels.

Drought conditions intensify since late 2025

Data indicates a significant rise in drought across Austria since September 2025, with conditions far below seasonal norms.

The current spring recorded the largest shortfall, with precipitation down by 80–90% in areas from eastern Tyrol to Carinthia and eastern Styria.

Environmental and agricultural impacts worsen

Reduced rainfall is affecting vegetation growth, agriculture, groundwater levels, and increasing the risk of forest fires.

Rainfall patterns vary widely, with drought particularly evident in Salzburg, Carinthia, Upper Austria, western Lower Austria, and Upper Styria.

Lungau in Salzburg received less than half its usual rainfall and snowfall, while Linz in Upper Austria recorded just over half of its normal levels.
