Sharjah 24: Inter Milan drew 3-3 away to Bologna in a dramatic but ultimately inconsequential match for both sides in the 38th and final round of the Italian football league season.

Inter Milan, crowned champions for the 21st time in their history before also lifting the Italian Cup, concluded their Serie A campaign with an entertaining 3-3 draw against hosts Bologna in a fluctuating final-round encounter.

Inter had wrapped up the title three rounds before the end of the season, while Bologna entered the match in eighth place and out of contention for European qualification, trailing seventh-placed Atalanta — who secured a spot in next season’s Conference League — by four points.

Inter full-back Federico Dimarco celebrated winning the league’s Best Player award this season in ideal fashion by opening the scoring in the 22nd minute.

However, veteran Federico Bernardeschi equalised for Bologna in the 25th minute after starting the move himself, before Tommaso Pobega gave the hosts the lead in the 42nd minute with a strike from the edge of the area that deflected off Inter’s Croatian midfielder Petar Sučić and Argentine striker Lautaro Martínez, wrong-footing Spanish goalkeeper Josep Martínez.

Inter’s task became even more difficult at the start of the second half when they conceded a third goal through an own goal, as Poland’s Piotr Zieliński accidentally turned the ball into his own net following a cross from Spain’s Juan Miranda aimed at Bernardeschi in the 48th minute.

Inter fought their way back into the match despite substituting Lautaro Martínez, Dimarco and Nicolò Barella, thanks to Frenchman Andy Diouf, who produced a fine solo effort ending with a shot off the post before the ball fell kindly to Pio Esposito, who tapped home with ease in the 64th minute.

Diouf himself then grabbed the equaliser in the 86th minute after a through ball from young Slovenian substitute Luka Topalović, who made his first-team debut at the age of 20.
