Sharjah 24: Dr Ghaleb Husseini, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the American University of Sharjah (AUS), praised the university community's efforts to support the "Pink Ribbon" campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. The campaign raises funds for a research project at the university's laboratory that offers renewed hope for breast cancer recovery.

Dr Husseini added that the research focuses on encapsulating the chemotherapy agent within vesicles in the bloodstream, which targets just malignant cells while sparing healthy ones. This strategy aims to improve patients' quality of life during chemotherapy by minimising side effects.

He stated that breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UAE, accounting for 21% of all cancer cases reported in the country.

The research is now being conducted by a large team of researchers, comprising university professors, devoted research workers, and over ten master's and PhD grads from AUS.
