As part of this program, a workshop was held at the department's headquarters, specifically for employees of the Sharjah Housing Department's internal audit teams. The workshop focused on explaining the importance of internal auditing and how it helps assess and improve internal controls, manage risks, and ensure that financial policies are followed in Sharjah.
Nada Shehail, who leads the Internal Audit Office at the Sharjah Finance Department, recently shared insights about an ongoing initiative aimed at improving collaboration between government agencies. This effort is focused on creating a better oversight system and enhancing the overall quality of financial and administrative procedures.
She mentioned, "Promoting a culture of internal auditing is essential for successful government institutions. It helps increase transparency, manage risks more effectively, and improve decision-making. We are dedicated to sharing this culture with different government entities to ensure everyone understands and applies the best practices recognized worldwide."
Shehail also noted that internal auditing acts as an important safeguard, ensuring that procedures are followed correctly and helping reduce any potential risks that organizations might encounter, whether those involve employees, clients, partners, or regulatory bodies. She emphasized that the department will continue to run awareness programs across the emirate to strengthen the important role of internal auditing.
The workshop introduced participants to the basics of internal auditing and its significance. It highlighted the importance of following international standards and the role of audit charters, which outline the services audits provide. Participants learned about the close connection between auditing and managing risks, and how both help improve an organization’s performance and ensure that public funds are used effectively.
The Finance Department emphasized that this initiative will keep growing to include more government agencies. This aligns with the Sharjah government’s goal to improve transparency, governance, and overall performance in order to meet the strategic objectives of the emirate.
