Sharjah24: As part of strengthening cultural and sporting cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club is participating with a dedicated pavilion in the 15th Katara Traditional Dhow Festival, held over 20 days in Doha.

Pavilion highlights

The Sharjah pavilion offers visitors a comprehensive experience through three main sections. The first presents authentic maritime heritage with scaled models of traditional wooden ships, along with fishing and diving tools that reflect the deep connection between coastal communities and Sharjah’s longstanding seafaring legacy.

The second section highlights the club’s modern efforts to develop and promote marine sports and its role in training new generations of practitioners and professionals.

The third features live interactive demonstrations of traditional maritime crafts and visual material documenting initiatives to preserve and pass on this heritage.

Participating entities

The pavilion is presented in collaboration with the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, the Sharjah Archaeology Authority and the Sharjah Institute for Heritage.

Commitment to heritage

Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, affirmed that the participation reflects the directives of the UAE leadership to preserve maritime heritage and strengthen the emirate’s position as a global centre for culture and sport. He noted that the presence in Doha underscores cultural exchange with Qatar and showcases joint efforts to safeguard Gulf maritime heritage, while also deepening ties and enhancing cooperation in tourism and marine sports.

Strengthening Gulf heritage

Sharjah’s participation supports collective Gulf efforts to protect maritime heritage and enhances cultural and sporting collaboration between the two countries, reinforcing historic bonds and the shared future of the region’s peoples.
