Sharjah 24 – WAM: Dr Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration of Egypt, stressed the immediate need to advance to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, noting that the first phase is nearly complete. He reaffirmed Egypt’s firm rejection of any attempts to divide Gaza or separate it from the West Bank.

UN-backed transitional mechanisms welcomed

During a press conference with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin, Abdel Ati stated that Egypt and Germany welcomed the UN resolution establishing three transitional mechanisms with mandates ending in December 2027: the Peace Council, the International Stability Force, and the Palestinian Administrative Committee.

Security measures and training efforts

On the security front, he announced that Egypt is currently training Palestinian police forces on its territory to prevent any security vacuum, confirming that trained units are ready for immediate deployment. He urged European support through the EUBAM and EUPOL missions to help prepare security cadres and maintain public order.

Reconstruction efforts and upcoming conference

Regarding reconstruction, Abdel Ati revealed that Cairo is coordinating with Washington to set a date for an international reconstruction conference, jointly chaired by Egypt and the United States. This initiative is based on the Arab-Islamic reconstruction plan adopted last March and will include significant participation from Germany and the European Union to support Gaza’s early recovery before winter begins.
