Sharjah 24 – AFP: The Italian Football League has announced that the Serie A match between AC Milan and Como will take place in Perth, Australia, on February 8.

Relocation follows international considerations

The decision comes two months after a similar project in the United States was canceled. Serie A President Ezio Simonelli confirmed the relocation during the Italian Super Cup semi-final in Riyadh, stating that the match will be held in Perth on February 8.

Refereeing arrangements approved

Serie A had concerns about using foreign referees for the match, but FIFA referees committee chairman Pierluigi Collina provided assurances regarding refereeing quality. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which oversees Australian football, requires AFC referees for the match, a condition Serie A has accepted.

Marketing and logistical considerations

Simonelli noted that additional marketing-related issues still need to be resolved before the match.

Serie A’s first match outside Italy

This will be the first time in Serie A history that a league match is held outside Italy. The move is necessary because AC Milan’s San Siro stadium will be used for the Winter Olympic Games opening ceremony in Milan-Cortina from February 6–22, 2026.
