UAE wins 9 medals at West Asian Weightlifting Championships

Sharjah 24: The UAE national weightlifting team has won 9 medals across the West Asian, Arab, and Qatar Cup championships, competing in junior, youth, and senior categories. The haul includes 1 silver and 8 bronze medals.

Standout performances

Saeed Al Hajri secured five bronze medals in the 79 kg weight class across three categories. Issa Rajab Al Balushi won silver in the snatch in the 79 kg category, while Bashayer Al Ahbabi earned bronze in the snatch in the 58 kg weight class. The team opened its medal tally with two bronze medals won by Zahra Al Hashemi in the 53 kg category.

Boosting Emirati athletes’ competitiveness

Hamad Juma Al Ajmi, board member of the UAE Athletics Federation and head of the technical committee, highlighted that the ninth medal marks a significant achievement amid strong competition from athletes representing 20 countries. He emphasised that the championship helps enhance Emirati athletes’ capabilities, strengthen their international presence, and raise their competitive edge.
