Sharjah 24 - A technical fault in the navigation system disrupted air traffic at Athens International Airport and several other Greek airports on Sunday, leading to the temporary suspension of all incoming and outgoing flights as a safety measure.

Suspension confirmed by authorities

The Greek Civil Aviation Authority said the malfunction occurred shortly before 10:00 a.m., prompting the immediate halt of air traffic. Athens Airport confirmed the suspension of operations.

Safety measures and ongoing investigations

The Ministry of Transport explained that the issue affected Flight Information Region (FIR) frequencies, leading to a notice being issued to air traffic controllers. Air traffic was restricted to limited operations while investigations continue to ensure flight safety.
