With this progress, ADNOC has now surpassed the halfway point toward its target, reinforcing its efforts to protect biodiversity through scalable, nature-based solutions. The initiative also supports the UAE’s broader ambition to plant 100 million mangroves by 2030, contributing to long-term environmental and economic value.
Dr Al Jaber emphasised that environmental stewardship is a core pillar of ADNOC’s strategy, noting that the company is making strong progress by using advanced technologies to support biodiversity while continuing to meet global energy needs responsibly.
Launched in 2023, ADNOC’s mangrove planting programme uses UAE-developed AI-enabled drone technology to plant mangroves efficiently and at scale. Advanced monitoring tools, including machine learning, are also employed to track mangrove health, growth, and restoration success over time.
Community engagement remains central to the initiative. In 2025 alone, more than 1,000 volunteers contributed thousands of hours to planting efforts. Since the programme began, around 6,000 participants—including students, community groups, People of Determination, and ADNOC employees—have taken part in planting, coastal clean-ups, and biodiversity restoration activities.
In 2024, ADNOC joined the Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative led by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi to accelerate restoration efforts, promote research, and encourage private sector and community involvement. These efforts align with the UAE’s Plant the Emirates Program and the World Economic Forum’s One Trillion Trees Initiative.
