Abdo explained that Palestinian puppet theatre has reached international standards through accumulated experience over more than 24 editions, enabling it to compete with global troupes at other festivals. He highlighted that the theatre even presents silent performances that rely on music, ensuring that language is never a barrier between the audience and the performance.
Abdo told “Sharjah 24” that the Arab Theatre Institute has delighted the puppet theatre community by reviving the forum. He stressed that the forum’s importance lies in sharing expertise and bringing artists together to introduce new forms of children’s arts — from marionette puppets used by Egyptian puppeteers, to street puppets, and puppets the performer voices from their stomach. “Here in Cairo, we work together, observe, learn, and strive to spread this culture among young people. Our role is to teach them and develop puppet theatre and children’s theatre,” he said.
