Sharjah 24: Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) organised the 12th edition of the "afforestation campaign for Al Muntather" in Al Bataeh area of the Emirate of Sharjah. The initiative is part of the EPAA's strategic efforts to protect the environment in various terrestrial and marine areas, preserve biodiversity, instil the concepts of sustainability and community awareness, encourage local agriculture, and promote community participation in conserving natural resources.

The campaign was organised in cooperation with several strategic partners, including Sharjah Police General Command (SPGC), Al Bataeh Municipality, and Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA). It saw wide participation from 60 government and private entities, as well as public and private schools, with the participation of approximately 1,000 students, clearly demonstrating the integration of institutional and community efforts in supporting environmental initiatives.

Commitment to environmental protection and biodiversity preservation

Her Excellency Aisha Rashid Deemas, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, stated: “The successful organisation of the "afforestation campaign for Al Muntather" for the 12th consecutive year reflects Sharjah’s deep commitment to environmental protection and the preservation of biodiversity, in line with the strategic vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which places sustainability and the protection of natural resources at the heart of government initiatives.”

Achieving sustainable development and preserving ecosystems

Her Excellency emphasised: “This campaign is a prime example of effective institutional and community partnership, where the community, including educational institutions, government entities, and private sector partners, contributes to creating a tangible impact that promotes a culture of sustainability and instills environmental awareness in new generations. This reflects Sharjah’s approach of combining sustainable development with environmental stewardship, ensuring a green future for generations to come.”

The campaign activities included the planting of 2,500 saplings of native trees suitable for the emirate’s environment, contributing to increasing green spaces, supporting biodiversity, and improving the environmental quality of the Al Muntather Reserve, in accordance with Sharjah’s vision of achieving sustainable development and preserving ecosystems. The Authority continues to implement quality environmental programs and initiatives, in cooperation with its partners, which enhances institutional environmental work and consolidates the Emirate’s position as a leading model in the field of sustainability and environmental protection at the local and regional levels.
