35 innovative projects qualified out of 75 submissions
The exhibition showcased 35 innovative projects that qualified from among 75 projects evaluated in the initial phase (out of 134 submissions). Students presented advanced applied models and scientific displays reflecting a sophisticated level of innovative thinking in vital areas including sustainable design and construction, energy and emissions reduction, undergraduate and graduate scientific research, artificial intelligence applications in sustainability, human and environmental health protection, and natural resource conservation.
A strategic platform to promote a culture of environmental innovation
Her Excellency Aisha Rashid Dimas, Chairperson of EPAA in Sharjah, affirmed that the final evaluation exhibition represents a pivotal stage in the award's journey, where innovative ideas converge with specialized scientific evaluation. This allows student projects to be transformed into tangible, scalable, and applicable models. She noted that the advanced level of the projects reflects the students' growing awareness of the importance of sustainability and their ability to utilise knowledge and modern technologies to find practical solutions to environmental challenges.
Her Excellency Aisha Rashid Dimas added that the award represents a strategic platform for promoting a culture of environmental innovation and strengthening integration between academic institutions and various sectors. This contributes to preparing a generation of national talents capable of leading the transition towards a more sustainable economy. She emphasized that the Authority is committed to supporting these high-quality initiatives, which align with the UAE's directions and future vision for achieving sustainable development and a high quality of life.
Practical and applicable solutions
The participating projects were distinguished by their focus on practical and applicable solutions that combine scientific and applied aspects. This reflects a growing trend towards linking higher education outcomes with the needs of sustainable development and enhancing the role of scientific research in addressing environmental challenges.
Members of the specialised judging panels toured the projects, engaging in direct discussions with the students. During these discussions, they reviewed the work methodologies, expected outcomes, and the potential for developing the projects into actionable initiatives. This interactive experience enriched the scientific dialogue and enhanced the participants' presentation and critical thinking skills.
Specialised evaluation sessions
At the conclusion of the exhibition, the judging panels held specialised evaluation sessions to review the projects according to precise criteria, including innovation, environmental impact, applicability, and long-term sustainability. This process paved the way for selecting the first and second place winners in each category, who will be announced during the award ceremony.
The organisation of this exhibition is part of a comprehensive evaluation system implemented by EPAA. This system also included the institutional category, in which 18 projects from various emirates were evaluated. Five institutions were shortlisted to advance to the final stage, which involves field visits to assess the projects on-site. This process enhances the accuracy of the evaluation and links the results to practical application.
The Authority is also continuing to evaluate school projects, with the aim of nominating outstanding projects for the final stage. This stage will include field visits in the coming period, reflecting the Authority's commitment to engaging all educational levels in the sustainability journey.
