Sharjah 24 – WAM: European Union lawmakers will hold an emergency meeting on Monday to reassess the bloc’s trade agreement with the United States following the Supreme Court’s ruling that struck down parts of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs.

Trade Committee response

The European Parliament’s Trade Committee, which had planned to vote on ratifying the US-EU agreement on Tuesday, emphasized the need to evaluate the impact of the court decision.

Bernd Lange, Chairman of the committee, stated that the ruling was expected and noted that the “legal basis for the unjustified tariffs was not correct.” He added that the committee must carefully assess the implications for the ongoing ratification process.

Implications for the US-EU agreement

The trade pact, which would eliminate tariffs on most US goods and set a 15 percent tariff on EU products, now faces potential adjustments following the ruling. The European Commission confirmed it is in close contact with Washington to seek clarity on the administration’s next steps.
