Sharjah 24 – WAM: The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has announced the exemption of overstay fines for individuals unable to depart the UAE due to exceptional regional circumstances that led to airspace closures and temporary flight suspensions.

Categories covered by the decision

The exemption applies to visitors holding visit visas, tourist visas, or exit permits, as well as residents who had cancelled their residency permits in preparation for departure. It covers fines incurred on or after 28 February 2026, allowing affected individuals to regularise their status without financial penalties resulting from circumstances beyond their control.

Humanitarian and support measures

The Authority stated that the decision reflects the UAE’s humanitarian approach in addressing emergencies and supporting travellers impacted by flight suspensions or rescheduling. Specialised teams at airports and Customer Happiness Centres continue to operate under emergency and business continuity plans to assist affected individuals and facilitate procedures.

Commitment to readiness and communication

Reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to tolerance and solidarity, the Authority emphasised its readiness to ensure service continuity and support travellers during exceptional situations. It urged individuals to follow official channels for updates and regulatory guidance related to these developments.
