Sharjah24 - AFP: Israeli rescue teams continued searching for missing people after a missile strike hit a residential building in the northern city of Haifa, leaving two people dead and others injured, according to authorities.

The strike caused significant damage to a seven-storey building, with parts of the structure collapsing. Authorities said the impact followed warnings of incoming missiles detected earlier in the day.

Emergency officials reported that four people were initially trapped under the rubble. Rescue teams later confirmed that two had been found dead, while efforts to locate the remaining individuals were ongoing.

Injuries and emergency response

Medical services said four people were injured in the attack, including a 10-month-old child who sustained a head injury. An elderly man was also seriously wounded but was later reported to be in stable condition. The injuries were caused by debris and the force of the explosion, authorities said.

Emergency responders and security personnel were deployed in large numbers to the site, where extensive destruction was reported. Authorities said rescue operations were complicated by heavy debris and structural damage.

Ongoing regional tensions

Officials said the missile was launched from Iran, as part of ongoing exchanges between the two countries. Air defence systems were activated in response to multiple waves of incoming missiles, authorities added.

The latest strike comes amid continuing hostilities, with both sides carrying out attacks in recent weeks targeting military infrastructure and strategic facilities.
