Sharjah24: The UAE Ministry of Defence announced on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, that the country’s air defence systems successfully intercepted 17 ballistic missiles and 35 drones launched from Iran, reaffirming full readiness to counter any threats to national security.

The ministry stated that since the start of what it described as Iranian attacks, UAE air defences have intercepted a total of 537 ballistic missiles, 26 cruise missiles, and 2,256 drones.

Casualties reported, no recent fatalities

The latest incidents resulted in three minor injuries, increasing the total number of injuries to 224 people of various nationalities, including Emirati, Egyptian, Sudanese, Ethiopian, Filipino, Pakistani, Iranian, Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Azerbaijani, Yemeni, Ugandan, Eritrean, Lebanese, Afghan, Bahraini, Comorian, Turkish, Iraqi, Nepali, Nigerian, Omani, Jordanian, Palestinian, Ghanaian, Indonesian, Swedish, Tunisian, Moroccan, and Russian.

No fatalities were recorded in the past hours.

Overall toll since escalation

Since the attacks began, the total number of martyrs has risen to two, along with one Moroccan civilian contractor working with the armed forces.

The total number of civilian fatalities is 10, including individuals of Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Palestinian, Indian, and Egyptian nationalities.

The Ministry of Defence affirmed that it remains fully prepared to respond decisively to any threats aimed at destabilising the country, ensuring the protection of its sovereignty, security, and stability, as well as safeguarding national interests and capabilities.
