He said the project reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to position Dubai as a global hub for innovation and integrated, sustainable transport systems. He noted that the emirate continues to expand mobility options, including metro, buses, and air taxis, to enhance quality of life and urban efficiency.
The station is the first purpose-built electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) Air Taxi facility in Dubai and serves as the main hub for future operations. Developed by Skyports Infrastructure, it includes take-off and landing pads, charging facilities, passenger services, and is designed to handle up to 170,000 passengers annually.
During the visit, Hamdan bin Mohammed was accompanied by senior officials including Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, while the project involves coordination between the Roads and Transport Authority (Dubai) (RTA), the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, and partners including Joby Aviation.
Officials said the Air Taxi service is expected to launch commercially by the end of the year, offering rapid, zero-emission travel across Dubai. A trip from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah is expected to take around 10 minutes, significantly reducing travel time compared to road transport.
Dubai plans to expand the network with additional stations in key locations including Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina, creating a four-station initial network by 2026 to support citywide air mobility.
Stakeholders described the project as a major step in advanced air mobility, highlighting its fully electric design, low noise profile, and integration with Dubai’s wider transport network, positioning the city at the forefront of future urban aviation.
