Hamdan bin Mohammed unveils ‘Season of Wulfa’

Celebrating heritage and Emirati values

The initiative aims to highlight traditions intrinsic to Emirati society while reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global destination that promotes tolerance, coexistence, and cultural respect. Rooted in heritage, spirituality, hospitality, and social bonds, the Season of Wulfa reflects the rhythm of life in the UAE and its deeply embedded values.

Leadership and oversight

As directed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, will lead and oversee the initiative, which includes a wide range of cultural events and activities across the season.

From Hag Al Leila to Eid celebrations

The Season of Wulfa runs from 15 Sha‘ban (Hag Al Leila) through the Holy Month of Ramadan and Eid, encompassing occasions that embody reflection, connection, and blessing. These core pillars are expressed through customs that promote harmony, compassion, and shared cultural identity.

Citywide cultural programme

Featuring more than 50 initiatives across over 30 locations in Dubai, including neighbourhoods, markets, and cultural destinations, the season is delivered in collaboration with government entities, the private sector, and local communities. It offers residents and visitors immersive cultural and humanitarian experiences that celebrate tradition while encouraging cultural exchange.

Strengthening social cohesion

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that the initiative strengthens community bonds, preserves living heritage, and builds cultural bridges by transforming customs into contemporary, engaging experiences. He highlighted the importance of passing values to future generations in ways that foster belonging, compassion, and collective identity.

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed noted that the Season of Wulfa reflects humanitarian values that encourage harmony and coexistence, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a global model of cultural diversity. She added that the initiative blends rich heritage with creativity, offering inclusive experiences that celebrate familiarity, closeness, and shared humanity.

Meaning of Wulfa

Derived from the classical Arabic word ‘Ulfa,’ meaning familiarity and affection, Wulfa represents closeness, harmony, and emotional connection. The season embodies this spirit by bringing people together through shared traditions, strengthening social ties, and celebrating Emirati culture in ways that resonate with present and future generations.
