Sharjah 24 – WAM: The Republic of Korea has approved its first paid autonomous freight transport service, allowing startup RideFlux Inc. to begin commercial operations, according to the transport ministry and Yonhap News Agency.

Parcel delivery operations to begin in June

RideFlux will launch parcel delivery services in June using an autonomous truck operating at speeds of up to 90 kph on a 112-kilometre route along the Jungbu Expressway.

Partnership with logistics company

The service will begin after a commercial freight agreement with Lotte Global Logistics, supporting the rollout of autonomous delivery operations.

Deployment of 25-ton autonomous truck

A 25-ton Maxen truck manufactured by Tata Daewoo Mobility Co. will be used, operating three times a week during off-peak hours.

Phased safety rollout plan

The project will begin with a safety driver on board, followed by a transition to driverless operations in later stages under a phased regulatory framework.

Step toward commercial autonomy

Officials said the approval marks a key milestone in the commercialization of autonomous driving technology in the logistics sector.
