Sharjah 24: Real Sociedad secured their fourth Copa del Rey title, defeating Atlético Madrid 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation and extra time.
Real Sociedad won the Copa del Rey title for the fourth time in their history, defeating Atlético Madrid 4-3 on penalties (2-2 after extra time) in the final at La Cortega Stadium in Seville.

Penalty shootout

Real Sociedad took the lead twice in regulation time through Ander Barrenetxea, who scored the fastest goal in the competition's final history after just 14 seconds, and their captain, Mikel Oyarzabal (45+1, penalty). Atlético Madrid responded through Nigerian Ademola Lookman (18) and Argentinian Julián Álvarez (83).

The score remained unchanged in extra time, leading to a penalty shootout. Real Sociedad emerged victorious thanks to a stellar performance from their goalkeeper, Unai Marírmo, who saved the first two penalties from Norwegian Alexander Sørloth and Álvarez. Argentinians Nico González and Thiago Almada converted their penalties, as did Álex Baena.

Dominant performance from the winning goalkeeper

For Real Sociedad, Carlos Soler, Croatian Luka Sučić, Aihen Muñoz, and Pablo Marín scored, while Icelandic player Óri Óscarsson missed the second penalty, which was saved by Argentinian goalkeeper Juan Musso.

This is Real Sociedad's fourth title in their eighth final overall, following their victories in 1909 and 1987 (also against Atlético Madrid, both on penalties after a 2-2 draw), and 2020.
