According to the decision, the Board of Trustees of the UOS is formed in its new term under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Professor Dr Issam Al-Din Ibrahim Ajami, Chancellor of the UOS, serving as a member. Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Advisor to the President of the UOS, Director of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology, and President of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, is also among the members.
The Board further includes Dr Mohammed Yousif Baniyas, Higher Education Advisor at the Sharjah Private Education Authority and member of the Permanent Executive Committee of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Mohammed Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Sharjah Islamic Bank.
Dr Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Legal Advisor and Chairman of the Legal Department of Sharjah, and member of the Sharjah Executive Council, is also a member, alongside Dr Muhadditha Al Hashemi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Dr Younis Hassan Al Mulla, expert in strategy and institutional development.
The membership also includes Dr Khawla Abdulrahman Al Mulla, former Chairperson of the Sharjah Family Affairs Authority, Prof. Jacques Frémont, former President of the University of Ottawa in Canada, and Prof. Mohd Hamdi Abdul Shukor, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Malaya in Malaysia.
In addition, Prof. Paul O’Byrne, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Vice President of McMaster University in Canada, is a member, along with Prof. Kamal Youcef Toumi, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Co-Director of the Centre for Clean Water and Clean Energy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, and Prof. Oussama Khatib, Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and Director of the Stanford Robotics Centre at Stanford University in the United States.
The decision stipulates that the term of membership on the Board shall be three years, renewable for a similar period or periods. Members whose terms expire may be reappointed.
