Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes equalled the Premier League record for most assists in a single season, with 20, matching the achievements of Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Fernandes reached the milestone when Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo converted his cross into United’s third goal in the 75th minute.
The match also marked the final appearance at Old Trafford for Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who received a warm ovation from supporters before being substituted late in the game.
He was later honoured alongside his family at the final whistle, after nearly four years with the club.
United opened the scoring after just five minutes through Luke Shaw, who fired home a direct shot.
Nottingham Forest equalised early in the second half when Brazilian defender Murillo headed in a cross from Elliot Anderson.
United regained the lead through Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha after the ball rebounded off Mbeumo’s arm in the build-up, and the goal stood following a VAR review.
Mbeumo later added a third goal before Morgan Gibbs-White reduced Forest's deficit.
The victory secured third place for Manchester United and extended the team’s impressive form under coach Michael Carrick, who has guided the club to eight wins in their last nine home matches since taking charge in January.
Reports indicate that Carrick is expected to sign a new two-year contract to remain at Old Trafford.
