Sharjah24: Barcelona have officially confirmed that Hansi Flick has signed a new contract with the club until the summer of 2028, with an option for an additional year. The announcement follows a title-winning season that has firmly cemented his standing at the club.

The 61-year-old joined Barcelona in 2024 and helped the club defend the Spanish league title with a 2-0 home win over rivals Real Madrid, clinching the trophy with three rounds remaining. His previous contract was due to expire in June 2027. With this achievement, Flick became the 10th coach in Barcelona's history to win back-to-back league titles and the first German manager to lead the club to consecutive championships.

Five titles

Flick has now won five titles with Barcelona over the past two years — two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, and a Copa del Rey. He arrived at the club in 2024, determined to rebuild his reputation after being dismissed as Germany’s national team coach in September 2023, having previously won the treble with Bayern Munich.

One missing trophy

Europe remains the primary target for Barcelona. Despite winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2020, Flick's Barcelona were eliminated by Atlético Madrid in this year's quarter-finals, following a semi-final exit against Inter Milan in the 2024/25 campaign. With two years ahead of him, the Champions League will be the prize he is chasing hardest.
