Sharjah 24: Like dress, tales, proverbs, and crafts, traditional cuisine is an integral aspect of a people's heritage that encompasses all of a country's regions. Together, they constitute a material and literary heritage that is passed down through generations due to its influential role and its connection to people's social and economic lives, evolving over the years.
Haris has strong ties to the traditional traditions of the region. It has been known since ancient times and is a vital component in Gulf and Emirati cuisine, in addition to being widely recognised. Weddings, Iftar during Ramadan, Eid festivities, and other happy parties all include it prominently, and it is still offered to visitors. The Emirati people have built an extensive collection of wisdom and folklore around this important and symbolic meal.

From 2010 to 2023, the UAE successfully registered 15 components on UNESCO's lists of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The registered files featured the following elements: falconry, Arabian camel racing, Al-Ayyala dance, Al-Razfa dance, Arabic majlis, Al-Tanboura dance, Al-Sadu weaving, Al-Azizi traditional songs, Al-Telli embroidery, camel grazing, Arabic coffee, date palm, aflaj irrigation system, Arabic calligraphy, and Haris dish. This is a great achievement in protecting and highlighting the UAE's rich cultural heritage.
