Sharjah24: The Poetry House in Marrakech held a new session of its “Al-Diwan” programme last Friday (14 November), celebrating new collections by poets Halima El Ismaili, Abdelrahman Ahmou and Karim Ait El Haj. The books were published in the “Arab Creativity” series by the Sharjah Department of Culture, in cooperation with the Poetry House. The event forms part of the 2025/2026 literary and cultural season, reinforcing reading and honouring Moroccan poetry and poets.

New collections enrich the Arab literary scene

The works Prophecy of the Mirror, I Lost You to the Gust of Confession and Water the Colour of Drowning join a growing list of poetry, criticism and translation titles issued by the Department of Culture. This partnership continues to open space for Moroccan poets, critics and researchers, encouraging publishing and supporting the circulation of books across Arab libraries.

Poets praise Sharjah’s cultural support

The participating poets highlighted the importance of the Department of Culture’s role in supporting Arab poetic voices and ensuring their works reach libraries. They also expressed appreciation for the initiative’s openness to contemporary Moroccan poetry across its diverse generations.

Readings, signings and musical performances

The “Al-Diwan” session featured poetry readings, book signings and musical accompaniment by artists Hajiba and Mohamed Ait El Qadi. Abdelrahman Ahmou read poems from I Lost You to the Gust of Confession, while Halima El Ismaili presented selected texts from Prophecy of the Mirror. Karim Ait El Haj, winner of the Poetry House’s Best Poem Award, read from Water the Colour of Drowning.

A season of new titles and creative horizons

The event marks another season of new works enriching Moroccan and Arab libraries with creative and critical titles exploring the questions of poetry. It reflects the Department of Culture in Sharjah’s commitment to supporting Arab creativity in all its forms and expanding access to diverse poetic voices.
