ERC launches winter aid for 1.9M people in 24 countries

Sharjah 24 – WAM: Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has launched its annual winter aid campaign to support 1,856,324 people in 24 countries. The campaign, with an estimated cost of AED37,126,485, aims to assist communities facing severe winter conditions by providing essential supplies.

Focus on Gaza and humanitarian support

More than AED27 million has been allocated to aid 1,350,000 individuals in Gaza, reaffirming the UAE’s leading humanitarian role and ongoing support for the Palestinian people.

Distribution of aid

The campaign will distribute winter clothing, blankets, heating supplies, food, hygiene parcels, children’s essentials, and shelter materials. Aid will be delivered through UAE embassies and ERC offices abroad to ensure rapid and efficient distribution.

Statements from ERC officials

Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the ERC, emphasised that the campaign enhances the organisation’s response to vulnerable groups affected by harsh winter weather. He highlighted the UAE’s longstanding humanitarian approach under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Al Mazrouei noted the campaign’s expanded beneficiary base due to escalating global crises and increasing humanitarian needs, with a particular focus on Gaza, reflecting ongoing UAE humanitarian efforts.

He thanked Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 and other local and international partners for their support.

Mohammed Al Shareef, spokesperson for Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, highlighted the ERC’s comprehensive relief efforts, including air, land, and sea deliveries, field programs, and the establishment of field hospitals to serve vulnerable populations.
