Victory boosts Inter to the top

Inter, last season's runners-up, continued their resurgence and temporarily seized the top spot from their city rivals AC Milan and defending champions Napoli after a resounding 4-0 victory over Como in the 14th round of the Italian Serie A.

Goals and key performances

Inter opened the scoring early, in the 11th minute, through their captain, Argentine international Lautaro Martinez, following a pass from Brazilian Luis Henrique. French international Marcus Thuram secured the win with a second goal early in the second half after a pass from Francesco Acerbi in the 59th minute.

Turkish international midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu added the third goal for the home side, before Brazilian Carlos Augusto completed the rout with the fourth goal after a pass from Federico Dimarco in the 86th minute.

Recent form

This was Inter Milan's second consecutive victory after two straight defeats: 0-1 to city rivals AC Milan in the league, and then 1-2 to Atlético Madrid, who inflicted their first Champions League defeat of the season after four consecutive wins.

Standings and upcoming matches

It was also the tenth win of the season for coach Cristian Chivu's men, bringing their points tally to 30 and putting them two points ahead of AC Milan, who visit Torino on Monday to conclude the round, and Napoli, who host Juventus on Sunday in the round's marquee match.
