Sharjah 24: The Special Olympics UAE delegation achieved a major milestone at the inaugural World Sailing Inclusion Championships, securing second place in the global standings.

Event details

The championships were held in the Sultanate of Oman from 3rd to 8th December 2025, featuring 23 countries from around the world.

UAE’s strong representation in inclusive sports

Special Olympics UAE participated as the largest delegation from the MENA region in the intellectual impairment category, highlighting the UAE’s leadership in promoting inclusion and expanding opportunities for People of Determination in international sports competitions.

Outstanding performances by UAE athletes

Athlete Marwan Salloum excelled in the ILCA category, winning his final race and securing second place globally. Omar Al Hammadi finished fifth in the same race, while Mohammed Al Zubaidi and his Unified partner Mohammed Al Owais placed 24th globally in the RS Venture Mixed category, topping their classification for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

UAE’s growing prominence in marine sports

The achievements at the championships add to a remarkable series of accomplishments for Special Olympics UAE in 2025, reinforcing the nation’s global standing in inclusive sports and marine competitions.
