The US chipmaker intends to fulfill initial orders using existing inventory, with shipments expected to range between 5,000 and 10,000 chip modules, equivalent to approximately 40,000 to 80,000 H200 AI chips.
Nvidia also told Chinese customers that it plans to add new production capacity for the H200 chips, with orders for the additional capacity expected to open in the second quarter of 2026.
The move follows a recent change in US policy after President Donald Trump announced that the sale of advanced chips to China would be permitted in exchange for a 25 percent fee, reversing a ban imposed by the previous administration.
The shipments would significantly boost the processing power available to major Chinese technology firms such as Alibaba and ByteDance, offering capabilities up to six times greater than current solutions. However, Beijing is reportedly approaching the matter cautiously, amid concerns that an influx of US chips could slow the development of China’s domestic semiconductor industry.
