Palestine 36 to premiere in UAE after Sharjah Film Platform win

Sharjah24: Sharjah Art Foundation will present the UAE premiere of Palestine 36, a historical feature film written and directed by acclaimed Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir. The screening will take place on 24 January 2026 at Mirage City Cinema in Al Mureijah Square, followed by a discussion with the director and producer, Ossama Bawardi.

Palestine 36 is one of two films selected for the inaugural Sharjah Film Platform Feature Fund, a major initiative supporting UAE-based filmmakers. The film also received international recognition, winning the Tokyo Grand Prix at the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival and being shortlisted for the 98th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.

A story set during a defining historical moment

Set against the backdrop of the 1936 uprising in Mandatory Palestine, the film follows Yusuf, a young man torn between his rural home and Jerusalem, as British colonial rule tightens and social tensions escalate. The narrative captures a pivotal moment that shaped the region’s modern history.
