Hosted at University City and running until 18 January, the festival is held under the theme “Following Africa’s Footsteps” and highlights the richness and diversity of African literary expression.
Speaking to Sharjah 24, Al Zadjali said this year’s programme places particular emphasis on literary creativity from Zanzibar, Ethiopia, and South Africa. The festival brings together 20 writers from seven African countries alongside nine Emirati authors, with a focus on narrative shifts and contemporary trends in African literature.
He added that SFAL has a wide-ranging cultural programme, including 20 panel discussions, five poetry evenings, 20 workshops for children, and 10 live cooking sessions. The programme also includes interactive talks, book signings, and artistic and musical performances, as well as African fashion and handicraft markets, offering a comprehensive celebration of the continent’s cultural diversity.
