The opening stage covered a distance of 129.6 km, starting from Al Layyah Canal on Al Noor Island and finishing at the Wheat Farm in the Mleiha area.
Cyclist Mohammed Al Mutaiwei of UAE Gen Z Team finished second, while Lorenzo Nespoli of Hungary’s MBH Bank Team claimed third place.
Jens Reynders was awarded the yellow jersey for the best overall time in the stage, sponsored by Sharjah Police, as well as the green jersey for best points in the speed classification, sponsored by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.
Mohammed Al Mutaiwei secured the red jersey as leader of the climbs classification, sponsored by Sharjah Municipality. He also received the UAE national flag jersey as the best Emirati cyclist of the stage, sponsored by the Sharjah Sports Council.
Cyclist Lorenzo Nespoli won the white jersey for best rider under 23 years of age, sponsored by Sharjah Sports Channel.
The awards ceremony was attended by Abdullah Sultan Al Dah, Board Member of the Sharjah Sports Council and Chairman of the Tour’s Organising Committee; Mansour Buasaiba, President of the UAE Cycling Federation; Mohammed Obaid Alu, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Sports Council; and Mohammed Sultan Al Khassouni, Chairman of the Board of Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club.
Also present were Dr Yasser Omar Al Dokhi, Director of the Tour, along with a number of representatives from supporting and sponsoring entities.
