Sharjah 24: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the first stage of the 11th Sharjah International Tour commenced on Friday evening, with the participation of 162 cyclists representing 27 teams and national selections from 18 countries. The tour spans a total of 503 kilometres across five stages.

Dr Yasser Al Dokhi, director of the Sharjah International Tour, expressed his satisfaction with the launch of the 11th edition, noting that the opening stage was attended and honoured by Sheikh Dr Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ruler's Office. The first stage began at Al Noor Island near the Al Layyah Canal in Sharjah City and concluded at the wheat farm in Mleiha, covering a distance of 129 kilometres.

Tour programme

Dr Al Dokhi explained that the second stage will take place on Saturday under the name "Al Jubail," covering 129.56 kilometres. It will start at 11:00am from Al Jubail Market in Sharjah and finish at Al Jubail Market in Kalba. The third stage, scheduled for Sunday, January 25, is titled "Al Heerah" and will be a 9.81-kilometre individual time trial, starting at 11:00 a.m. and finishing at Al Heerah Municipality. People of determination and youth will precede this stage at 9:00am with accompanying races.

The fourth stage, titled "Eastern Region," will be held on Monday, January 26; it will cover 133 kilometres. It will start at 11:00am from Dibba Al Hisn Island and finish at Al Sahab Rest Area in Khorfakkan. The fifth and final stage, titled "Heritage and Civilisation," will take place on Tuesday, January 27, over a distance of 100.99 kilometres, starting at 11:00 a.m. from the Sharjah Falconers Club and concluding at the Sharjah Grand Mosque.

In concluding his remarks, Dr Al Dokhi extended his thanks and appreciation to all participating and supporting entities and institutions, wishing all competitors success and a strong conclusion to the tour.
