Sharjah 24: Three matches were played in Thursday’s third round of the basketball competition at AWST 2026, with Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club edging Bahrain’s Al Hala Club 77–73, Kuwait’s Al Fatat Sports Club cruising past Tunisia’s Al Amal Sports Club 83–59, and Jordan’s Al Fuheis Club maintaining their unbeaten run with an 80–65 victory over hosts Sharjah Women’s Sports Club.

In the first match of the day, Kuwait’s Al Fatat Sports Club delivered a strong all-round performance to defeat Tunisia’s Al Amal Sports Club 83–59.

Al Fatat set the tempo early, taking the opening quarter 24–14 and extending their lead to 43–29 by halftime. Al Amal showed signs of recovery in the third period, outscoring their opponents 24–14, but Al Fatat reasserted control in the final quarter with a dominant 26–6 run to seal the result.

In the second game, Bahrain’s Al Hala Club pushed Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club to the limit. Still, it fell short in the closing stages, as the UAE side secured a 77–73 victory.

Al Hala made the stronger start, finishing the first quarter with a 16–12 lead, before Khorfakkan responded emphatically in the second quarter to edge it 18–16. With the contest remaining tight, the third quarter ended level at 18–18, leaving the outcome undecided heading into the closing stages.

In the fourth quarter, Khorfakkan turned the tide with an energetic display and sharp focus, asserting their superiority with a 29–23 run to seal the game by four points and underline the team’s composure and ability to deliver in decisive moments.

In the final game of the day, Jordan’s Shabab Al Fuheis Club continued their strong showing at AWST 2026, registering their second win of the tournament.

The defending champions laid the foundations early, dominating the first half with quarter scores of 25–18 and 27–14 to take firm control of the contest. They extended their lead in the third quarter, winning it 15–13, Although Sharjah showed improvement in the final quarter, winning it 20–13, Al Fuheis’ earlier advantage proved decisive as they maintained their grip on the game and strengthened their position in the title race.

Basketball action at AWST 2026 continues on Friday with fourth-round matches scheduled at Al Batayih Cultural & Sports Club. Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club will face Al Fatat Sports Club at 12:00 pm, followed by Iraq’s Gaz Al Shamal Club against Jordan’s Al Fuheis Club at 2:00 pm. The day concludes at 4:00 pm with Tunisia’s Al Amal Sports Club taking on hosts Sharjah Women’s Sports Club.

AWST 2026 runs until February 12 and features 65 teams from 16 Arab countries competing across nine individual and team sports.
