Sharjah 24: Moza Mohammed Al Shamsi, Director of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST), stated that the eighth edition of the AWST featured women’s beach rowing competitions, with the sport included for the first time in the tournament’s sporting programme. The competitions were held at Al Hamriyah Beach Park in Sharjah, with the participation of six teams representing women’s clubs from six Arab countries, in contests that reflected diversity and the growing adoption of marine sports within the tournament framework.

Six teams from six Arab countries

Moza Mohammed Al Shamsi noted that beach rowing made its debut in the ASWT in its eighth edition, alongside nine approved sports. The competitions were contested by six teams representing six Arab countries and took place at Al Hamriyah Beach Park in Sharjah.

Strong technical performances

In exclusive statements to “Sharjah 24,” Al Shamsi affirmed that the competitions witnessed distinguished technical performances by the participating teams, reflecting the development of women’s sports in Arab countries and the commitment of women’s clubs to strengthening their presence across various marine sports.

Three cups to promote excellence and fair play

The Director of the AWST added that the organising committee approved the awarding of three cups at the conclusion of the tournament: the Club Sporting Excellence Cup, the Club Athletic Distinction Cup, and the Fair Play Federation Cup, with the aim of reinforcing the values of fair competition and promoting outstanding sporting performance.

Looking ahead

Al Shamsi concluded by emphasising the organising committee’s aspiration to expand participation in future editions and increase support for women’s sports, contributing to the strengthening of the status of Arab women’s sport on the regional sporting stage.
