The tournament brought together 68 young girls from different training centres across Sharjah, Al Dhaid, and Kalba, creating a shared sporting experience designed specifically for early childhood development.
The competition included fundamental gymnastics movements such as floor exercises, balance beam skills, and simplified routines on the parallel bars and vault. These activities were adapted to suit the age group, with a focus on improving balance, coordination, and self-confidence.
The tournament is part of the Early Childhood Sport Project, an initiative aimed at building a strong sporting foundation from the earliest years. It focuses on providing structured physical activities that reflect the developmental needs of young children, both physically and cognitively.
Gymnastics was chosen as the core discipline of the project due to its strong contribution to sensory and motor development. It helps improve balance, body control, and concentration, while also supporting motor-cognitive enrichment by linking movement with thinking and response.
Al Yazya Al Suwaidi, Head of the Technical Preparation and Follow-up Department at the Sharjah Women Sports, said the project is designed to offer a comprehensive and age-appropriate sporting experience. She noted that the training is delivered gradually and interactively, with an emphasis on enjoyment and long-term engagement in sport.
Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Women Sports, highlighted the importance of parental support, noting its positive impact on the confidence and participation of the girls. She also stressed that investing in sport from early childhood helps build lifelong healthy habits.
The Early Childhood Sport Project continues to provide specialised gymnastics sessions that develop motor, sensory, and cognitive skills in a safe and engaging environment, supporting children’s overall physical and mental development.
