This event is a significant step towards raising awareness of the importance of Emirati social heritage and educating children about authentic customs and traditions that form an integral part of Emirati identity. This contributes to building a generation that is aware of and rooted in its cultural heritage, and strengthens family and community bonds.
The event, hosted by Al Qarain Children's Centre in collaboration with several local institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah, took place in a rich festive atmosphere that blended art and heritage. It included a variety of creative workshops and activities that took children on a unique journey through the world of arts and heritage.
These included workshops on "Painting on Pottery," "Painting on Traditional Fans," "Painting on Canvas Bags," "Designing Traditional Dress Items," and "Friendship Bracelets." A corner was dedicated to an exhibition of heritage arts showcasing the creations of Sharjah's children, alongside a corner for traditional and heritage foods, a photography corner, and heritage performances such as the "Yowla" dance, Emirati folk songs and stories, as well as heritage games and competitions aimed at instilling a love for Emirati heritage and reinforcing institutional values in children. Sharjah's children's centres, located throughout Sharjah city and the Central and Eastern regions, also organised a range of diverse workshops to celebrate the Night of Mid-Sha'ban. Participating children enjoyed traditional games such as tug-of-war, as well as folk songs and chants. Poetry recitations were also featured.
The celebrations also included a variety of creative workshops covering Emirati traditional dressmaking, decorating sweets and cups, making Ramadan lanterns, and the traditional Gargee'an celebration. Children also created traditional artwork, and there were competitions and sports challenges that added an atmosphere of excitement and fun for the participating children.
It is worth noting that the "Haq Al Laila" event was organised in cooperation with several government entities and institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah, including: the Department of Social Services, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, the Sharjah Museums Authority, the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, the Sharjah Classic Cars Club, the Contemporary Crafts Council "Irthi," and the Sharjah Cooperative Society.
