According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, six victims were discovered inside a high school in the town of Tumbler Ridge. Two additional victims were found at a nearby residence believed to be connected to the same incident. Another person died while being transported to hospital.
Police said the suspected shooter was found dead with what appears to be a self-inflicted injury. Authorities added that they do not believe there are additional suspects and stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Tumbler Ridge is a remote municipality in northern British Columbia, located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, about 1,155 kilometres northeast of Vancouver. The town has a population of roughly 2,400 residents.
Police confirmed that about 25 people were being medically assessed for injuries at a local health centre following the incident.
